Hunter Kira Gone Dorje’s dog ran off following a deer. Kira Gone Dorje followed the dog and unknowingly crossed over the Nangpa La into Khumbu (Nepal). Since then the pass was opened. Nangpa La is the traditional trade route for the Sherpa people, to get into Tibet for trade. In the past Nangpa La was totally covered with ice and snow. As time passed the snow and ice started to melt, and then turned into the Nangpa La pass, making it easier for the people to cross.
